Discover New Blogs! – Round Two

liebsteraward

Round two of the Liebster Award! Thank you to writer Naomi Boshari for nominating us. Check out her insightful reflections here. The Liebster is a way for us to send some love out to our fellow bloggers, and have some fun along the way. Here are our responses to Naomi’s questions, followed by our queries for our virtual friends, to help us get to know them better.

1) Why did you first start blogging?
Leah: We started MWC in June of 2013 almost as a dare to each other. A year later, it’s a part of my everyday life.
Carolyn: I have to credit Leah with the idea to explore the blogosphere. I couldn’t have imagined it would be this much fun.

2) What did you study in school? Or if you could chose something to study what would it be?
Leah: I was an English major and a Computer Science minor.
Carolyn: I have a degree in Elementary Ed with a minor in psychology, and did some graduate work in Educational Technology.

3) What’s your favourite place to write?
Leah: At my desk in my home office. I can look out the window, past my front porch to the lawn and the road. It’s a quiet place but also feels close to civilization, and I like that tension.
Carolyn: I love my creative space in the basement, but do most of my thinking during my daily walk in the woods.

4) Who is someone who has greatly inspired you?
Leah: I’m inspired by people who speak their truth even though they know what they have to say will be unpopular or even, for them, fatal.
Carolyn: My husband. His consistent hard work, unselfishness and kind heartedness amaze me every day.

5) Where would you want to retire?
Leah: In a cabin in the mountains with a writing studio and a view.
Carolyn: Right here. Although I dream about Wyoming…

6) If you could bring one author back to life, who would it be?
Leah: I can’t decide on just one, so I’ll say Jane Austen and Robertson Davies. Then I’d host a lunch for the three of us. Heaven!
Carolyn: Impossible to answer! It would be fun to read Dicken’s current social commentary. I would also love one more novel written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

7) What quote best suits your life?
Leah: From Edith Wharton – “One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways.”
Carolyn: “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” -from Zen Buddhism, more recently attributed to Yoda.

8) Who is your favourite fictional villain?
Leah: Professor Moriarty in The Adventure of the Final Problem (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)
Carolyn: Uriah Heep from David Copperfield.

9) What’s one goal you want to achieve for 2014?
Leah: Finish our blog/site redesign and build MWC into the community we envision.
Carolyn: To become a certified meditation instructor.

10) Which season is your favourite?
Leah: Fall. Cool days and nights, changing colors, transitions and new energy after the lazy days of summer.
Carolyn: Spring. New beginnings, rebirth…

11) In one word, what does blogging mean to you?
Leah: Practice
Carolyn: Connection
